HIPHOP PLAY “BONFIRE NIGHT” PREMIERES AT PAVILION THEATRE
“Look closely, there’s something in the ember that lives”
Youth theatre doesn’t get more exciting than this. AudioActive has commissioned BBC Radio 4 slam poetry champion, Dizraeli (Rowan Sawday), to write a high-quality short play for four talented teenage rap artists (Sam Maryon, Mrisi Makondo-Wills, Jamal Ali, Jordan Stephens) - veterans in their own right of the organisation’s Hip Hop Foundation Programme.
Hot off the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe theatre circuit with “The Rebel Cell”, Dizraeli’s youth production - to be premiered on Wednesday 4th March 2009 at Pavilion Theatre, Brighton - is white hot. The night will fuse together poetry, hip hop and theatre under one roof. “Bonfire Night” follows the story of three young Brighton men who are, individually, led astray by the sinister spirit, or apparition, of Guy Fawkes, the famous 16th century religious/political revolutionary.
The play, delivered entirely in rap, demonstrates the ugly sides of the characters’ personalities, and within the surprisingly short duration (20 minutes), brings their actions to a dramatic climax. The evening will finish with music performances from some of the cast.
This is AudioActive’s first theatre production, but expect to see more.
